1.) Why does Al try to steal the hammer?
Al try's to steal the hammer because he has lots of nails and want to build something " Now, with the ten-cent hammer he believed he could make something out of box wood and nails"( p.79)
2.) Why does Al say that he didn’t mean to steal the hammer?
Al said he didn't mean to steal the hammer because he did not need it. "I didnt mean to steal it. I just need it and I havent got the money." (p.80)
3.) Why is Al “deeply ashamed” after he leaves the store? (p. 81)
Al is " deeply ashamed" after he leaves because he knows that he was not suppose to steal the hammer. "The first thing he did when he was freed was laugh, but he knew he was humiliated, and he was deeply ashamed. He hated the young man who had caught him and he hated the manager of the store who had made him stand in silence in the office for so long" (p.81)
4.) Why won’t Al accept his mother’s money to buy the hammer?
Al won't accept his mothers money because he dose not want to take her money for something he dose not need. " I just won't take your maoney for something I don't really need. I just thought I ought to have a hammer, so I could make something I felt like it. I've got a lot of nails and some box wood, but I haven't got a hammer. " (p.83)

Al makes a bench for the garden because Che wanted to make something and it was nice. " I don't want you to steal, ' his mother spoke in broken English. " (p.83)

Al dose not accept the job because he says " I will never work for people like that" ( p.87)

Al walks out of Woolworth’s, because he just wanted the hammer not the dollar. "Because I hate both of them, ' the boy said. (p.87)

All dose not feel humiliated because he went back and worked for the hammer. "His mother went inside and went to bed, but Al Condraj sat on the bench he hadmade and smelled the parsley gardeb and didn't feel humiliated anymore." (p.87)
